| Subject | [greenstone-users] hierarchical markers |
| Hi list,
This little experience just might help someone along the way. I was putting in Title metadata on letters, and using the Hierarchy classifier because I have 6 thousand items of correspondence to enter. Accordingly, the first level was, let's say a name (Cimatti, in this case) which I followed with a bar, hence Cimatti|. So far so good. Then I was copying and pasting from the letter headings which had been written thus: Antonio/Livorno/2001-03-02/. Accordingly the metadata looked like this at this point, for Title: Cimatti|Antonio/Livorno/2001-03-02/. What I was surprised to discover was that Greenstone treated the forward slashes, not just the bar, as hierarchical markers. I didn't realise it would do that, so have had to remove those slashes otherwise a user would have to click through 4 or 5 levels to get to the letter itself. Not sure how often a situation like that might turn up for others, but I thought I'd note it just in case it might help someone avoid (or include the possibility of) using / as a hierarchical marker.
