A couple of possibilities:
Check that the metadata you are displaying in the format statement is
dls.Title (i.e. the same as the sort metadata). Sometimes if a list is
sorted on a different metadata to what is being displayed, then you
can't tell that its sorted.

Secondly, do you have non a-z metadata? Sorting for all classifiers
apart from GenericList is done by stripping out non a-z0-9 characters
and sorting on the result.

If you have non english metadata, then you may want to try GenericList.
