Sorry for the slow reply.

Your computer sounds fine. The limiting factor would be greenstone, not
the hardware. The number of documents that can be processed depends a
lot on how big the documents are, and how much text there is in the
collection. Greenstone can handle collections with up to several
gigabytes of text.

Very large collections may take quite a while (days) to build,
especially if they have several indexes.

I suggest that you develop the collection using a few (say 50) documents
until it looks how you want it, then just try on the whole set and see
what happens.
