You need to replace "dir" with the directory name that gdbm is in,
otherwise the configure script doesn't know where to look.

Eg if you installed gdbm in /home/me/gdbm-1.8.0, then you need to tell
the configure script
./configure --with-gdbm=/home/me/gdbm-1.8.0
