Hi Petra,
Since version 2.38 Greenstone has come with PPTPlug, a plugin for processing PowerPoint files. This is a fairly basic plugin that relies on the ppthtml program from the "xlhtml" package (also included). I've never used this plugin, but from the readme file it only works with PowerPoint 95 and 97 files. There might be a newer version of the xlhtml package available (Greenstone uses 0.4.9.0), but the homepage http://www.xlhtml.org seems to be down at the moment. Depending on how many PowerPoint files you have, it might be feasible to manually open them up and save them as PowerPoint 95/97. Hope this helps, Michael
