Good question. It would be possible to extend DateList to split by day as
well, in the same way as John extended it to split by month. I don't know
what it would do to your other items that only need a year, though.
The only alternative I can think of is to use the Hierarchy classifier.
This allows you to create arbitrary hierarchies, so you can organise the
items however you want. For example, you might split by year, then month,
then day, or you might split by type (book/newspaper etc.) first, then
year, month, day etc. To use the Hierarchy classifier you need to create a
"hfile", like the ones in the demo collection's "etc" directory. You'd
certainly want to automate this, probably with a Perl or similar script.
