Subject [greenstone-users] Recurring file names and multipaged files (not using pdf)
We are preparing digitized card indexes for web access using Greenstone.
What is the best way to handle the following:
1. Each image is using the name, subject, or location as Filename. How
do we make a distinction between files with the same name because the cards
have recurring personal or agency name, subject entries, and geographical
location entries? Do we just rename them name-1, name-2, name-3;
location-1, location-2, location-3? Is there a better way to make a
distinction?
2. Some card indexes are double-sided. When I tested Greenstone 2.72,
it does not appear to be able to handle multiple paged tiffs. It can
handle pdfs but when I converted doublesided cards to multipaged pdfs and
left the others in its original format (tiff or jpg), the A-Z list put the
pdf files first alphabetically and the tiff/jpg files next alphabetically.
Is there a better solution to this than creating a long metadata item file
for thousands of records using pagedimage plug-in, or renaming files
name-part1of2, name-part2of2 ...?
