Hi Heather

Excel Plugin should extract the content if it has managed to process the
document, and then it will be searchable. What was the output from
collection building? Were there any errors? Have you got UnknownPlugin
and ExcelPlugin both in your collection to process Excel document? Which
plugin is actually processing them?
Are you using GLI? You can switch to expert mode
(File->Preferences->Mode) and rebuild to see more output from the
collection build.

ExcelPlugin only handles versions 95 and 97. If the files are newer than
that, then they won't be processed.
