Hello Mohamed,

I may have misunderstood your question, but if you want to know how to add
files (such as articles in pdf, doc or other format) into a collection,
the process is as follows. I'm assuming you are running Greenstone 2
(version 2.x).

1. Run the Greenstone Librarian Interface (GLI)
HOW:
- go to your Greenstone installation directory, which I will refer to as
$GSDLHOME. This folder often has the name gsdl. There should be a setup.sh
file which you need to source if you are on Linux:
> source setup.sh
If you are on Windows, the setup.bat file is the one you want.
- Move into $GSDLHOME's subfolder called gli:
> cd $GSDLHOME/gli
- run GLI by executing
>./gli.sh
If you're on Windows it will probably be gli.bat that you need to run,
rather than gli.sh

2. Create a new collection (or open an existing one):
HOW, depending on whether you are creating a new collection or opening an
existing one:
- In the menus go to File > New. And type a name for your collection and
add a description.
- File > Open and choose the collection you want to add your publication
files to.

3. Add your documents into the active collection
HOW: From the folder view in the left-hand pane drag and drop the files
you want to add to your collection into the right-hand pane.

4. The Enrich tab at the top of GLI will allow you to specify metadata
(like creator, subject, title information) for all the documents in your
collection. You may find it useful to do that.

5. Let's just build the collection.
HOW: Click on the Create tab at the top and press the Build Collection
bottom at the bottom.

6. View the collection in the browser
Point your browser to
http://your-host-name:your-port-name/gsdlsvn/cgi-bin/library
For example, http://localhost:8080/gsdlsvn/cgi-bin/library

7. You might want to customize your collection and its appearance in the
browser further. You could start this by opening your collection in GLI
again and going to the Design tab and modifying the Search Indexes or
Browsing Classifiers.

Was this what you were wondering about?

Anupama
