Um, you can't. This is one of the more ridiculous limitations of
Greenstone's format strings (anyone feel like fixing this?). For browse
structures you could try using the AZCompactList classifier as I think it
does this type of thing. Maybe others who know more about AZCompactList than
me can supply more details.

Another option is to create your metadata something like the following:

<Metadata name="Creator" mode="accumulate">Author1</Metadata>
<Metadata name="Creator" mode="accumulate">Author2</Metadata>
<Metadata name="AllCreators">Author1; Author2</Metadata>

then display the [AllCreators] metadata in your format statements. A little
ugly perhaps, but workable.
