Hello Sébastien,

http://www.greenstone.org/greenstone3-home/

This page outlines some of the differences between Greenstone 2 and Greenstone 3, and why you might want to use Greenstone 3. Note that the project currently recommends Greenstone 2 over Greenstone 3 for production digital libraries.

A major difference is in the runtime (collection serving) part of greenstone. The runtime component of Greenstone 2 is C++/CGI based. For Greenstone 3, it is Java based, using Tomcat Java servlets.

Regards,

Richard.
