Hi,

I am pleased to announce a new option for Greenstone users looking for
commercial support. We have over 6 years' experience of using and
modifying Greenstone ourselves (originally as part of the NZDL project),
and now offer the following services:

* customization (of the presented interface and server functionality)

* creation/configuration of collections, and developing plugins to
import data in different file formats

* hosting collections

* advice and technical support regarding Greenstone

At the moment we only have experience with Greenstone version 2.x, not
version 3.

Dear all,

We have a large collection with 4 millions of pdf document. Do you think
that will be possible to create a collection with 4TB of data amount

Hi Marios Zervas,

I believe that one of the resultant GDBM (the database greenstone uses
to store a collection's metadata) files, that the collection building
process creates has a 2GB filesize limit. So it really depends on how
much metadata you have in your collection. It's very possible to have a
collection with 4TB of data, but with a lot less than 2GB of metadata,
because for example you might have video files in your collection, that
have massive filesizes compared with a very small amount of associated
metadata. Even large image files take up a lot of space, compared to the
amount of metadata associated with them.

As far as indexed text goes, I believe there is a limit of 2GB of
compressed indexed text if you are building your collection with the
mg, or mgpp indexer, but if this is an issue, you can switch to the
lucene indexer which has no limit that I'm aware of on indexed text. I
believe that a collection has been built with the lucene indexer that
has 13 million documents and 87G of text.

For more information see:
http://wiki.greenstone.org/wiki/index.php/Building_Greenstone_collections#Are_there_any_limits_to_the_size of collections.3F

Regards,

Richard.

Hello!
I face with problem with z3950 server. I have compiled GreenStone with z3950 support
(following your recommendation). I try to download records from the GLI.
My parameters :
* host - localhost
* port - 9999
* database - flowers
* find - @attr 1= flowers
I got 18 records.
Records: 18
[flowers]Record type:
USmarc
001
008 071211s
245 $a DSCF0058
786 0 $n DSCF0058.jpg
[flowers]Record type:
USmarc
001
008 071211s
245 $a DSCF0060
786 0 $n DSCF0060.jpg
Etc
But I want to see another metadata (for example: DC.Creator, DC.Language, DC.Publisher,
DC.Title ). How can I add them (another metadata)?

Thanks

hey guys!

just came across a minor issue with HTMLPlug. it should handle CDATA
sections in description tags correctly. here's the diff against v2.73:

----[ diff HTMLPlug.pm{.orig,} ]----
*** HTMLPlug.pm.orig 2007-06-05 06:26:50.000000000 +0200
--- HTMLPlug.pm 2007-12-16 14:02:39.000000000 +0100
***************
*** 752 ****
! unless $dont_strip && ($dont_strip eq 'all' || $metaname =~
/^($dont_strip)$/);
--- 752 ----
! unless $metavalue =~ s/^<![CDATA[(.*)]]>$/1/ || ($dont_strip
&& ($dont_strip eq 'all' || $metaname =~ /^($dont_strip)$/));
---- snip ----

I would like to know if it's possible to have a specific CSS style sheet for the pages where the document is displayed, and an another for the others pages (about page, help page, preference page, search and search results pages...)

What kind of test should I introduce in the collection macro (package style) ?

Any help ?
