mgpp is indexing software, it is used as a component of greenstone to build indexes that are then queried by the user when they do a search in greenstone.I am having trouble finding a greenstone site with the mgpp (whatever that is) interface that allows searching on metadata fields. Can you provide? Also, are the only greenstone sites those listed on their homepage?
If you go to www.nzdl.org, and scroll down to the Bibliography collection, click the image. This is an example mgpp collection, if you look at the search page you will see the ability to search by metadata item(s).
Defining it as an mgpp in its collection configuration file (linked to on the about page of that collection) are the lines:
searchtype form plain
indexes text metadata
as opposed to an mg form, something like:
indexes section:text section:Title document:text
In mg you dont have a searchtype line, and you specify the indexes differently.

Hi Emil, For all greenstone collections using the default interface: from the preferences page (click the preferences button to get there) choose "advanced query mode" for boolean searching. For greenstone collections built with the mgpp indexing software (as opposed to mg) an advanced form search is available that allows searching on metadata fields. As for date range searching, there is a feature for searching by a range of years. If you add the following line to a greenstone collection's collect.cfg file: format Queryinterface Datesearch The search interface will display a facility for date range searching on the "Date" metadata item. hope that was helpful, Richard - DL Consulting Greenstone Digital Library and Digitisation Specialists firstname.lastname@example.org www.dlconsulting.co.nz Emil Levine wrote:Dear Colleagues, I am looking at the Greenstone interfaces from the greenstone.org page. They are all the same. Is it possible to have a more conventional search page, Boolean AND OR NOT on specific fields, rangesearch on dates, etc? If so, can you advise me of locations.
