I'm very very disappointed to hear that your collections were deleted, and I
sincerely hope that this hasn't cost you too much time.
Installing and uninstalling the files of a package is controlled entirely by
the Microsoft Installer (MSI) system, which we don't have anything to do with
(we just specify the files and how they are grouped together into features).
When uninstalling, the MSI system should delete *only* those files that it
installed in the first place - that is, it should not touch the collections
that you have built, because these are new files. Unfortunately, it seems that
it got confused somewhere along the way (maybe during the Repair or Modify
operations). I am going to try to reproduce this problem here, but other users
should take heed of your lesson: please backup your collections before
We do recommend that you uninstall your existing Greenstone before installing a
new version (Repair and Modify do not help with updating an old version). In
the future we might look at creating patches to move from one version to the
next, but for now this is the best way.
Thanks very much for your message,
All the best,
