Yes
it does. For example, the port-pt.dm file contains the core
translations for a language, and any extra translations (generally) are
put in the port-pt2.dm file.

page for Portuguese, I guess I could create a portuguese-pt2.dm file
with just the couple of bits in it I wanted?
Yes
you can, remember to add the new macro file into the main.cfg file so
it will be included.
