Hi,
Greenstone has it's own built in web interface capable of generating web pages for display on a PDA. I suggest that if you want to create web pages for PDA's then using a translation layer built using ASP.net is probably making the job much harder for yourself unless it is a part of the requirements of the assignment. I suggest that you skip using the ASP layer all together and use Greenstone to create the web page.
If you *must* make Greenstone be the data store only then the easiest way of making Greenstone generate XML would be to change the macros in gsdl/macros/ and change them from creating HTML to creating XML. To do this you may need to edit the code within the receptionist that puts the macros together.

Thanks Sir,
Thanks for the suggestion. I would like to tell u more detail about my project. We have to build a web site for PDA using asp.net and my friend is on that. She have to send a user request to me and I have to  retrieve it from greenstone . That's our assignment.
I saw some  green stone samples with very nice interface here : http://www.greenstone.org/cgi-bin/library?e=p-en-home-utfZz-8&a=p&p=examples
these are Greenstone interfaces ? When can I get example projects to refer to build something like one of those. And where can I get sample codes for adding and retrieving?
pls help me! only two days and they ask me to do something to show them sooner :(.
and how do I add ability ???? Thanks for the supports. I'm looking forwards to ur reply!

Hi PaingThu,
Greenstone 2 has no built in method of returning XML to web services so adding the ability would require knowledge of C++. Greenstone 3 however does use XML between components, so your web server should be able to ask the components to return XML and then work with that.
I'd say a much easier way would be to use a PDA that has a decent web browser and use Greenstone's built in web interface on the PDA. The advantage of this way is that you can use a stock Greenstone installation with very little customisation. To do this all you have to do is install IIS on Windows XP and follow the Greenstone installation instructions on the wiki.
