Hi Georg,

We (i.e. DL Consulting Ltd. - http://www.dlconsulting.com) wrote the
Greenstone METS/ALTO code that is used by Papers Past (http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz
) and other similar newspaper collections. We haven't put it back in
to the core Greenstone code yet for a couple of reasons.

1. It's highly specialized to work with the METS/ALTO format, and it's
not clear how best to add it back to Greenstone in a way that'd be
generally useful.

2. We've worked with a number of METS/ALTO based projects now and have
yet to come across two that used the exact same METS/ALTO schema. That
is, the code always needs to be modified to suit the METS/ALTO schema
used, so it's again not generally useful to people, except as a
starting point.

In any case, if you'd like to contact me off list I'd be happy to
discuss with you our work with Greenstone and METS/ALTO, and see how
we can help.

Kind regards,

Stefan Boddie
