Subject [greenstone-users] new user questions - Greenstone and XP problems
Hi,
I am a library science grad student taking a digital libraries course
in which Greenstone was recommended for our development project. I
like everything I've seen about Greenstone, and am impressed with the
development effort that has been put into it. I am having some
problems using the librarian interface on XP, however.

I read about turning off Norton Antivirus, and do that before I start
Greenstone. That change at least allowed a build to complete!

However, almost every time I exit Greenstone, everything freezes up on
my desktop including Greenstone. I can't even use CTRL-ALT-DEL to
perform a shut down. I have had to shut down my computer using the
power switch at least 18 times today - ouch. About every fifteen
times that I use Greenstone, I am able to shut down normally.
Sometimes Greenstone freezes while I'm in the middle of designing or
enriching, but if I complete a Greenstone session and click Close and
Exit, I can almost guarantee that the machine will freeze up.

I can't be the only XP user! Are there any additional settings or
recommendations? I have a fairly new Sony Vaio laptop with plenty of
resources. I run it in 1600x1200 resolution, if that would make a
difference. I have tried shutting down anything else that's running.
I would love to be able to use Greenstone without constantly having
problems.

Your help is appreciated because I can think of lots of great things
to do with this product!
