Take a look at the "garish" demo collection

This gives you some tips for modifying the interface of a collection.

The navigation bar is defined in the receptionist, and consists of a
sequence of macros. For example:

<nobr>_imagesearch_ _imagespacer_ _imageTitle_ _imagespacer_

These macros are in gsdl/macros/
_imageXXX_ is defined to be the roll over buttons. For when you are on a
page, _icontabXXXgreen_ defines the static image.
/gsdlmod?e=d-00000-00---off-0gsarch--00-0----0-10-0---0---0direct-10---4-----dfr--0-1l--11-en-50---20-preferences-Wallacehill1%26%2364%3baol%2ecom--00-0-21-00-0--4----0-0-11-10-0utfZz-8-00&a=q is the link to the search page,
_httpbrowseXXX_ is the link to the XXX browse page.

You can modify the _imageXXX_ and _icontabXXXgreen_ macros (or
alternatively, macros that these macros use) to be anything you want.

Hope this helps
