Hi Ina,

Unfortunately, in GS2, no such function has been designed to export records to DSpace yet. However, the good news is that we have decided to give it a go. We are currently working at designing an exporter to export GS collections to DSpace and an DSpacePlugin to import the collection from DSpace.

In the meantime, I would suggest you to refer to the DSpace on-line document.:
DSpace System Documentation: Application Layer. Section: Item Importer and Exporter. http://dspace.org/technology/system-docs/application.html
This document provides you some examples on how to import batches of files to DSpace. For example,

For importing  batch of records, DSpace has a simple archive format, one directory per document, see below:

Archive_directory/
       Item000/
dublin_core.xml => is equalivalent to GS2: metadata.xml but in dublin core.
contents => listing all the files that make up the document
             file_1.html
             file_2.png
                   ......

In GS2, all the source files are stored in the /gsdl/collect/collection_name/import directory.  If you could organise these files manually into DSpace's required structure, you should be able to import them into your DSpace system for now. Of course, we will inform you once the new development has been completed.

Hope this is useful!

Hallo Chi-Yu
Thank you very much for your response.
To answer your questions:
1. Yes, I'm only concerned with exporting records to dSpace.
2. I want to export a whole collection from Greenstone to dSpace.
3. I would like to export all at once.

Hi,

We have recently developed a function to export the GS2 archive file into the METs file format. Regarding to your request, I had a look the documentation of DSpace. It appears that DSpace only provides a similar function to export the METs format from their system rather than importing. However, DSpace does provide an importer to import a batch of files. I am currently looking at this aspect and trying out the intercompatability between two systems. In the meantime, I would like to clarify your requests. Are you only concerned with exporting to DSpace? or are you after a general solution? Do you want to export a whole collection from Greenstone to DSpace or only some specific documents? How do you envisage that the exporting would be used, for example, selecting a set of documents from search results and exporting them?

Cheers,

We've been running a collection on Greenstone at the University of Pretoria for quite a while now, and with great success. The question I now have is whether it would be possible to export certain records from Greenstone to another platform, specifically to dSpace. If possible, how can I go about to do that? Your response will be much appreciated.
