1. I often see the same sort of message. For instance, when I compile up
the GLI application, the output I see is:

So far, I took the message "recompile with -Xlint..." as merely
indicating that it will give more information on the
unchecked or unsafe operations" used in "some input files" (and other
warnings). If this is all the message you are getting, the compilation
process may not have met with an error. For instance, in my case, the
above means the program has compiled successfully and that I can run GLI
now.

2. If you are indeed seeing *errors* when compiling, can you
a. tell us the version of Greenstone you were trying to compile up.
b. send us the part of the compilation output containing the actual
errors encountered (such portions will probably contain the word
"Error")? Note that compilation *warnings*, on the other hand, do not
prevent one from running the program. Warnings often turn up when
compiling using deprecated features. Though it advisable to fix the
causes of warnings in Java, a program can usually be successfully
executed if all that turned up when compiling it were warnings.
