Hello Larry,

Of the latest 2 errors you have seen (after making the changes), the 500
HTTP response code is serious and would have caused the 2nd one. It
implies that something has gone wrong on the server end, possibly as a
result of making the changes.

Before making those changes, was Image Magick found locally on the
server machine: If you ran regular GLI on the server machine, was the
Greenstone server able to create thumbnails then? If so, then the
problem lies uniquely with the remote Greenstone.

Maybe you could try the release-candidate binary of the Greenstone2.84,
which can be downloaded from the top of the page
http://www.greenstone.org/snapshots ?
If you choose to install the 2.84 release-candidate, it will also help
us identify whether the problem you are facing has persisted into the
latest version. Furthermore, it should already include the changes you
had manually added into 2.83. If you go this route, both the Greenstone
server on your remote machine and the GLI used on the client machine
need to be updated together, which means installing 2.84 on both machines.

If you do prefer to continue working with 2.83, I would suggest removing
the changes you had made earlier to the server machine upon following
the instructions in the mailing list and
1. confirm that the initial errors you encountered on there not being
any ImageMagick have returned (since the additional lines in gsdlCGI.pm
are no longer there),
2. then, one last time, try adding in the changes you followed from the
mailing list: just to double check whether those suggested additions
really broke the server or whether there was any additional character
(for instance) accidentally inserted earlier which then caused an error
on the server which then manifested as the HTTP 500 message. Only in
case we're lucky and you don't get an HTTP 500 this time: try visiting
your server's Greenstone home. Remove the "library.cgi" at the end, and
replace this with "gliserver.pl?cmd=check-installation" and view the
page at that URL. There will be a section that prints out the "PATH".
See if this huge line contains the correct location of your Greenstone's
imagemagick installation: if so, it should be referring to something
like <your Greenstone installation folder>/bin/windows/imagemagick/bin.
If that looks correct, then try connecting your client GLI to your
server machine again, create a test collection with an image, turn on
the "create thumbnail" option for the ImagePlugin in GLI (since that
will make use of ImageMagick) and see if that "there is no ImageMagik"
message no longer appears.

If you still have problems with 2.83 or 2.84 after trying any of the
above, do tell us so we can think of what to try from there.
