Lesson: La nutrition des plantes

Rationale: Demonstrate the necessity of sunlight by covering one leaf of a plant so that it doesn't receive sunlight and dies.

Materials:

potted plant (peanut works okay as well as various weeds)

carbon paper (or other dark paper)

plastic

paper clips

Procedure:

Preparation a week to ten days in advance:

1. Cover several leaves of a potted plant with carbon paper to shut out the light.

2. Cover the carbon paper with plastic so that it doesn't get wet. Hold the paper and plastic in place with paper clips.

3. Depending on the type of plant, the covered leaves should die in a week to ten days.
