Rationale: See if the students are awake.
2 cm² squares of paper
1. Before class put 10-12 small squares of paper inside the deflated balloon. These will be the newly replicated and released protozoans.
2. When discussing replication in the red blood cells, start blowing up the balloon.
3. Ask the students what happens if the parasites keep replicating inside the red blood cells.
4. Add some more air, and some more, and some more, and when they least expect it, discreetly pull out a pin and pop the balloon releasing the new parasites.
