Abstract
This working paper examines literature on the issue of women in management. More specifically, the paper reviews existing literature on attitudes of men and women towards women as managers. The current status of research on issues such as sex stereotypes, sex typing of jobs and its behavioural impact, tokenism, sex discrimination in recruitment and promotion, gender differences in compensation, effect of sex-bias on the self esteem and career choice of women and problems of women in dual roles has been summarised. The latter part of the paper presents the results of a small study conducted in IRMA in order to test the attitudes prevailing among the IRMA students and some working women in Anand on the issue of women in management.
