9 Tests and evaluations

Some other interesting publications on training and teaching

If you are going to be involved in teaching in one form or another you will also have to think about testing and evaluating. It is quite logical to include these steps in your lesson plan since you will want to get an idea of the results of your efforts. You will want to inform your students about the progress they have made, and know if you have achieved your learning objectives.

Lacking a frame of reference with regard to testing and evaluating, your thoughts may go back to the examinations and tests you went through in your own school days. However, this frame of reference usually proves quite limited, out-dated and often not very comparable to the situation in a developing country. In this chapter we will therefore consider the subject of testing and evaluating.
