Lesson: Les ailments
Rationale: Iodine test for starch in food samples.
Materials:
Lugol's iodine solution (MIF kit, or Bangui pharmacies)
*Important: iodine is light sensitive so store in dark*
Suggestions for samples:
Positive: manioc tubercule, flour, rice (cooked), peanuts (raw), sweet potatoe, banana
Negative: milk, oil, orange
Procedure:
Iodine + starch = dark blue or black color
If using raw peanuts the reaction takes a couple minutes.
