| The impact of RAMP studies in the field of education |
This study forms part of the evaluation of the impact of the Records and Archives Management Programme (RAMP) of the Division of the General Information Programme (PGI) in Member States, which was carried out between August 1992 and March 1993.
The main evaluation traces the evolution of RAMP since its conception in 1979, identifies its objectives, examines the programme proposals made by four expert consultations held in 1979 (RAMP I), 1982 (RAMP II), 1986 (RAMP III) and 1989 (RAMP IV) and assesses the resources available to RAMP in the light of its objectives and programme.
This study is a separate evaluation of the series of RAMP studies for their contribution to the teaching material available to archival schools and was undertaken by means of a survey, by Professor Carol Couture of the University of Montreal, under contract with UNESCO. Of the elements which make up RAMP, the series of RAMP studies, of which over one hundred have been issued covering a wide range of archival and records management topics, are the best known. These are often seen as synonymous with the RAMP programme itself. The general consensus is that the studies have contributed significantly to achieving the objectives of RAMP and play a relatively important role in the corpus of professional literature.
