Equipment, supplies and drugs

The equipment, supplies and drugs needed for an obstetric service at first referral level are listed in Annexes 2 to 5, many of the items appear in the UNICEF/UNIPAC catalogue 19901 and the WHO list of essential drugs (20). Ensuring adequate supplies is critical. The supply of consumable items should not be allowed to run out before orders for fresh supplies are made: there should still be sufficient to last for eight months when new orders are placed.
