RESOLUTION #84-F-04
WHEREAS, the American Indian Tribes have been continuously
attacked with adverse publicity and political action movements as
a new kind of approach towards the acts of genocide reflected in
the nineteenth century; and
WHEREAS, these movements, to totally discredit Indian
Treaties, laws, and policies of such adverse groups have tended
to degrade the integrity of the American Indian Tribes and the
legal status guaranteed to the Tribes under solemn Treaties made
with the United States government; and
WHEREAS, there is a strong need to effectively counteract the
bad, derogatory publicity being imposed against the American
Indian Tribes and their Treaties: and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Affiliated Tribes of
Northwest Indians expresses its concern for the need to organize
a political-action movement group, consisting of a committee or
commission of Indians journalist, newspaper editors, publishers,
or media experts, in general, to make national or regional
response to such public aggression of anti-Indian/anti-Treaty
media exposure to the American public; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Affiliated Tribes of
Northwest Indians urges the 41st Annual Convention of the
National Congress of American Indians to support this resolution
and give serious consideration to organize such a group of
experts, as a political action group, responding to adverse
publicity movements.
CERTIFICATION
The foregoing resolution was duly endorsed at the Annual
Conference of the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians, at
Spokane, Washington, on September 8, 1984, with a quorum present
and voting.
