|4. Major areas of action|
This is a critical issue in all aspects of maternal and child care. Antenatal, perinatal and postnatal care, and primary eye care as an integral part of primary health care, are key areas where enhanced and extended training of health personnel is needed.
In relation to management of eye conditions in neonates, e.g., cataract, glaucoma, and retinopathy of prematurity, specialized training of ophthalmologists in selected centres is necessary.
