The Researchers

MUSTER research was co-ordinated from the Centre for International Education, Institute of Education at the University of Sussex in partnership with five link institutions each of which convened research teams to collect and analyse data. The institutions and the Principal Researchers were:

· The Institute of Education, University of Cape Coast, Ghana (Dr. K.Akyeampong)
· The Institute of Education, National University of Lesotho (J.P.Lefoka)
· The Centre for Educational Research and Training, University of Malawi (D.Kunje)
· The Faculty of Education, University of Durban-Westville, South Africa (Dr.M.Samuel)
· The School of Education, University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago (Dr. J.George).

Four Sussex faculty co-ordinated the MUSTER research providing advice, direct research support in-country, and assistance with data analysis and report publication. These are Professor Keith Lewin, Dr Janet Stuart, Dr David Stephens (1997-1999), and Dr Yusuf Sayed (1999-2001). Dr Julie Coultas (Research Officer 1998/1999) assisted with statistical analysis and advice to parts of the research. Three doctoral students have been attached to the project and have worked with the relevant country teams - Alison Croft (Malawi), Dominic Furlong (Ghana) and John Hedges (Ghana). John Hedges also acted as a Research Officer (2000/2001) to support the dissemination programme. Each country has organised its research teams differently. A full list of research teams in each country is included in Appendix 1.
