SPECIAL CONTRACTS CONFIRMA- TION ACT, 1877.

No. XIII. We give the following Act In full for the information of our Maori readers :— An Act to authorise the Governor to complete certain unfulfilled engagements relating to land, and for that purpose to issue Crown grants in certain cases. [20th November, 1877.] Whereas verbal and written promises have from timo to time been made to give pieces or parcels of land to Natives, who have thereupon in some cases occupied the land so promised to them, and erected buildings thereon, and in other cases have alienated the said lands and re- ceived full money consideration for the same from parties dealing with such Natives in good faith. And whereas during the course of years certain complications in respect of confiscated lands and exchanges thereof, and in respect of the sale, exchange, and grants of other lands of the Crown have arisen, and the same cannot be settled with- out special authority of law : Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the autho- rity of the same, as follows :— 1. The short title, of this Act shall be " The Special Contracts Confirmation Act, 1877." 2. The contracts, promises, or engagements severally enumerated in the Schedule to this Act are hereby ratified . and confirmed, and it shall be lawful for the Governor to do all things that may be necessary for or towards the fulfillment or completion of any of the aforesaid con
