pp.33-34 Editorial directive to Maori that Pakeha education will convert them from the obscurity of their knowledge into people of learning, achievement and status. The Editor refers to the ancestral legends of Māui and Tāwhaki to illustrate the era that Maori exist in; prescribes education at school, cultivation of the land and harvest of its products, scraping flax fibre, weaving baskets and mats, farming livestock, constructing lofty furnished homes, and prayer.
