Family didn't have a radio until the 1930s. Recalls silent movies once a week at Waitoa, family didn't go often. Recalls a sheltered upbringing - never allowed to see a calf being born, never told where babies came from, no sex education,

"The oldest one told the next one all the way down .... we never spoke to anybody about it"
