Waikato River

Recalls travelling on the paddle-steamer to The Narrows for Sunday school picnics.

Remembers Pine beach, access to the river difficult then, no path.

"two big pine trees and a great big drop ... hang on the roots of the pine trees and drop and down another big hill ...after that they put a tree across and made a little pool for children"

Describes mother making picnic, dropping basket down the track.
