Jukeboxes the thing. Crew cuts; Fair Isle jerseys, a sleeveless type (all leftover wool), Sloppy Joes - a fluffy highnecked vivid coloured top. Trousers wide 22" leg width, always with a cuff. Always sported a sports coat and tie to races, theatre, everywhere.

`Dressed for the occasion'. School dress uniform, no exceptions allowed. No "printing" on t-shirts.

Movies a real form of entertainment. Recalls 5 theatres in Hamilton during the 1950's. Serials were the lure to attend next week. A social event - recalled relations had `permanent' seats, every Saturday night.

Recalls first technicolour film at the Frankton Theatre. Favourite Film of the time "The third man".

Fads - hula hoops.

Radio another source of entertainment 1ZB Auckland and 1YA - the National Station. Sunday Request Session on 1ZB, listened to regularly. Recalls the Announcer saying

"Today we are not playing any Bing Crosby tunes just to give everyone a rest"

Serials popular on a radio also. A family affair.

Records popular in home, a 33 speed. Played 6 tunes, rather than having to change every 3 minutes was a big break through.
