Travel and Ambition

At 19, worked in Australia for 6 months, then England. Perspective's changed after being overseas.

Didn't feel particularly ambitious, but remembers being very pleased at offer to work in reception (dealing with people).

Seeing girls getting pregnant and married young made Delwin's resolve stronger to not be in the same position.

Went to England on her own having seen a photo of a ship in a travel agents window.

Rule of boys having to cross opposite side of the road / bridge from girls on way home from school.

Met boys though dances, pony clubs, and brother (and hot rods).

Remembers terrible car crash when young - woman (16) and young male driver killed. Affected acceptances of rides home from social events. Read instalments in paper about tragedies like murders.
