Went to Kaipaki. Then living at Ruakura, went to Hamilton East School by train (which picked up students from Cambridge to Hamilton).
Quite a lot of fun being on the train with only kids. Enjoyed school and especially sports. Played all sports of team games at yearly sports contest between Primary Schools.
These finished in 1947 when the polio epidemic closed school. For the first term they had correspondence lessons. This reduced mixing with others their age. Mentions a woman who had suffered polio then but seems well now.
