Findings of the International Workshop Assessing the Impact of Agricultural Research
on Poverty Alleviation
In September last year, a distinguished group of about 175 economists, researchers, and development specialists gathered at San José, Costa Rica, to conduct a rigorous examination of the impact of agricultural research on poverty alleviation. The event was organized by CIAT under joint sponsorship with the Center for Research and Higher Education (CATIE) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA). It provided a forum for more than 80 scientists to share their results, summarizing numerous case studies of research that has made a difference in the lives of the poor. This Web site provides a summary of the workshops findings, together with the full text of most of the papers presented as well as background information on the event.
