Pete Domenici (R-NM), chair of the Senate Budget Committee, is now supporting the bipartisan National Research Investment Act (S.1305) that would call for doubling civilian science funding in ten years. George Brown (D-CA) is sponsoring a House budget plan that would increase R&D by 5% per year, consistent with the doubling goal. [Robert L.
