Over 160K shareware, freeware, and commercial titles are available on C|Net's . A brief description is given for each title. The interface identifies the most reliable archives, taking download time into account. At least 33 software companies and 22 major archives are cooperating in this site, including C|Net's virtual software library. Archives are linked via C|Net's VSL-Open Standard and VSL engine, which will eventually encompass direct links to shareware authors. Services include a "Title of the Day" review for PC and Mac. Subscribe to the newsletter for your platform to be alerted to new titles. The site's Top 30 chart has been showing Cyber Strip Poker as the most popular download.)

(Incidentally, a shareware author may get the same $9 return from a $10 shareware package as from a $50 commercial package. If we're wise, we'll support both the mechanism and the authors.)
