There is a FAQ file concerning the Internet, its services, and tutorial books such as "Crossing the Internet Threshold," "Exploring the Internet," and "Internet System Handbook." FTP internet-services/faq from /pub/usenet/news.answers on rtfm.mit.edu or post a "send usenet/news.answers/internet- services/faq" message to mail-server@rtfm.mit.edu. [Kevin M. Savetz. net-happenings, 7/21/93.]

A new internet guide is "Internet Connections: a librarian's guide to dial-up access and use" by Engle, Lutz, Jones, and Engel from LITA (American Library Association). It lists dial-up service providers, journals, and network discovery tools. You can FTP it as INTERNET_GUIDE.PS in PUB/INTERNET on dla.ucop.edu. [Lise M. Dyckman (dyckman@elmer1.bobst.nyu.edu), NETTRAIN, 6/7/93. net-happenings.]

An Internet bibliography for librarians can be FTP'd as irg-14.txt from "guides" on gandalf.iat.unc.edu, or via gopher to sunsite.unc.edu. [Carolyn Kotlas (carolynk.iat@mhs.unc.edu), PACS-L, 7/19/93.]

The PDIAL list of public, dial-accessible internet IP services is no longer available through anonymous ftp to pub/info-server on netcom.com. [Genevieve Engel (gen@magnum.ucop.edu), com-priv@psi.com, 5/24/93.]

Lists of internet access providers are now available via gopher. This includes the PDIAL list of public dialups, the NSF network provider and low-volume network provider referral lists, the NixPub [long-format] list of open-access Unix sites, and two other lists of US and non-US providers. Point your gopher to sluava.slu.edu, "Library Services/SLU Law Library Services/Internet Training and Access Info." If you don't have a gopher client, telnet to consultant.micro.umn.edu (or other gopher), then choose "Other gophers and information servers/ All the gophers in the world/North America/USA/missouri/ Saint Louis University." Some of the files are out of date, so you may want to try gopher.internic.net instead. [Jim Milles (millesjg@sluvca.slu.edu), NETTRAIN, 7/7/93. net-happenings.]
