Karlstrom Award for an outstanding educator who has advanced new CS/Engineering teaching methodologies or curriculum development, or who is contributing to ACM's educational mission. Awarded "Computer Software Innovation of the Year" by Discover magazine: The Personal Communicator is a Macintosh CD ROM for deaf children, permitting classroom or one-to-one communication via signing (ASL), speech synthesis, and digital video.
