NetNews/CD is an archive of nearly 3K Usenet newsgroups, from Sterling Software (Bellevue, NE). You get a monthly ISO 9660- format CD ROM holding up to 600 Mb, plus an annual NetGems issue with major source code releases. The current NetGems, from 12/29/91, contains the X Window System V11 R5 sources, the Free Software Foundation's GNU software, USENET comp.sources.*, alt.sources, vmsnet.sources archives, and the NIC RFCs. You can tap 15,000 business news items with NewsNet, a service offering online copies of newsletters, corporate profiles, credit reports, etc. You pay for what you read, but NewsFlash macros help sift for the good stuff. Jim Carroll (jcarroll@jacc.com) says you can get Dialog "current awareness" search results by email. Set up a Dialog Strategic Dissemination of Information (SDI) filter and specify that you want the results sent to your internet address. Dialog will check your search criteria every time they update their database. You get up to 10 or 25 articles per week for $4.75 to $25, then pay regular Dialog charges for more. You can also get a GIF-format weather map from vmd.cso.uiuc.edu. The file name will be something like SA111323.GIF, where SA is followed by the month, day, and GMT hour.
