Assessment of epidemiological situation – Malta

HIV testing and case reporting: HIV testing is mandatory for blood donors, STD patients, and IDU’ s in treatment centres. Data on diagnosed HIV cases are reported in a national HIV data file. By end 1999 a total of 163 HIV cases were reported (6 in 1999). No HIV infection has ever been reported among IDU. HIV prevalence: Prevalence data comes mostly from ongoing testing programmes, although few data have been provided.
