In 1991, 1 percent of sex workers tested in an urban site were HIV positive.

In 1992, one percent of STD patients tested in some sites were HIV positive. In 1993 and 1994, no evidence of HIV was found among STD patients in Amman or in three sites outside of Amman. Also, in an unspecified site in 1995, there was no evidence of HIV infection among STD clinic patients tested.

There was no evidence of HIV infection among antenatal clinic women tested between 1992 and 1994. There was also no evidence of HIV among antenatal and gynaecological attendants tested in 1999.
