Uganda

In Uganda a UNAIDS-supported access to drugs initiative has been operational since 1998.

With the announcement of the Accelerating Access Initiative, the government decided to accelerate the development of an access to care plan with wider coverage, both in geographical terms and in terms of the therapeutic options covered, and to re-assess its procurement and drug distribution options.

A draft action plan was submitted to us 2 weeks ago. A mission to assist the government with the formulation of the next version of this plan is ongoing, and is anticipated to conclude its work next week.
