| 5: THE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON COFFEE PRODUCTION IN TANZANIA |
Coffee is the principal cash crop in Tanzania contributing up to 60% of GNP per year. It is produced in 12 regions of the republic comprising of Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Rukwa, Kigoma, Kagera, Mwanza, Tanga, Morogoro, Iringa, Mbeya, Ruvuma and Mara. The two types of coffee grown are arabica and robusta. Robusta is limited to Kagera region but is grown in small quantities in Tanga and Morogoro. The average cultivation composition is 3:1 Arabica to Robusta respectively.
