The Seminar brought together policy-makers and provided orientation and exposure on the early warning methodology, activities and techniques and created awareness among IGADD member states on the role and activities of the Early Warning and Food Information System for food Security.

An inventory of the agricultural production in Kampala revealed that urban agriculture constitutes a major economic activity of over one third of the urban households in Kampala and enables these households to survive without other employment or to bridge the gap between the cost of living and the real income from wage employment. The problems facing urban agriculture such as security of land tenure, technical means of production and poor public health resulting from lack of recycling of urban wastes are discussed. Policy implications on urban agriculture are reviewed. In view of the benefits of urban agriculture to the urban economy, recommendations are made to policy makers to support urban agriculture as a productive resource to be exploited for urban development. Government and non-governmental organisations are urged to provide assistance such as inputs and credit to support urban agriculture.
